Quick reads
Cool things I've worked on, showing my approach across various projects
Training designers
Teaching how to design and prototype within Figma - from basics to advanced techniques
Developing their application of design concepts like hierarchy, alignment, and other gestalt principles
Working through a full design process, including scope/prioritization, low-fi wireframing, identifying design language, iteration and critique
Incorporating research, testing, and analysis into the design, giving them a full snapshot of the UCD process
Accessibility user testing
National Minimum Dataset for Social Care (NMDS-SC) is an extensive form users are required to complete to qualify for social care
To test the usability of the form, I conducted observational sessions in users' homes, with their own assistive technology
While somewhat usable, the form was very difficult to understand, especially so for those with cognitive difficulties
Carers struggled with completing the NMDS-SC while performing care duties, especially due to impenetrable questions and confusion around answering on someone else's behalf
Usability studies and eyetracking
In my time working in a UX research agency, I estimate to have conducted over 1000 hours of user testing
This included eye-tracking for most sessions, using either mounted trackers, or eye-tracking glasses
This provided unique insight for me into how people browse and which web patterns create most confusion
Following the day's testing, I would consolidate findings with my research partner, or workshop these throughout the day with clients who were observing
Data analytics for UX
Leading on implementation of the data analytics tool, Fullstory, across various products
Running sessions with internal data consumers to establish how analytics can help their workflow
Using markup and CSS selectors to set up bespoke metrics and analyse important user behaviours
Supporting data consumers with analysis and interpretation of data to inform product decisions
Card sort and taxonomy
Taxonomy and usability project as part of my agency research work
Ran tests and card-sorting to inform restructure of the site's information architecture
Card sort analysis showed solid groupings, with some outliers indicating poorly-worded or irrelevant content
Diary study for car insurance
Conducted a diary study to examine the mid-term journey for car insurance renewers and customers
Identified different patterns of user behaviour based on convenience, money-saving, and joint/group decision-making
Results were communicated and synthesized in a client workshop
Staff personas
User research to understand staff discontent around IT provisioning
Designed a set of research activities, including surveys, first-round interviews, and further interviews
As the research progressed, clear patterns of usage and requirements became apparent
To communicate and personify these patterns, I created a set of personas to guide IT's decision-making
